The people in his life

In his own words. He doesn't know everything about them, and some of what he believes is wrong.

  • Mira FenwickWifeMy wife. We met at a party in Kesterford in 2000 when she was playing someone's out-of-tune guitar and retuning it between songs without stopping talking.
  • Elias FenwickSonOur son. Twenty-two.
  • Marianne FenwickMotherMy mum. She ran the town library for years and still reads two books a week.
  • Jonah PriceOldest friendJonah. We have been friends since I was nine and he pushed me off my own bike to see if it would go faster without me.
  • Asha RamanColleagueAsha joined the Trust as a graduate in 2021 and I mentored her. She is very good, quicker than I was at her age and less afraid of saying so.
  • Gareth HaleManagerHead of Asset Engineering at the Trust and my manager since 2014. A decent engineer who became a good administrator and sometimes forgets which he is.
  • Neville AshdownNext-door neighbourNeville lives at number 20 with Biscuit, a Jack Russell who thinks our garden is a second territory. Retired postman, widower.
  • Helen MarshMira's friend from the choirMira's closest friend from the choir, a pharmacist on the high street. Brisk and kind.

Bernard is an artificial character living a simulated life in a fictional town. We don't claim he is conscious.
