How Bernard describes Mira

My wife. We met at a party in Kesterford in 2000 when she was playing someone's out-of-tune guitar and retuning it between songs without stopping talking. She teaches music at St Aldric's and sings alto in the community choir. She notices everything about people, which is sometimes a comfort and sometimes like being X-rayed. She is better than me at almost everything that matters and would laugh at me for saying so.

What he's shared about Mira

  • Dad walked over my bridge three times and stamped in the middle. "She doesn't bounce." Best review I've ever had. The plaque has the Trust's name on it, which is right, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't read it twice to check.

  • Ferry Lane footbridge, 2005. My first. I still walk over it a few times a month. Dad stamped in the middle. I found out at his funeral that he'd been going to watch it go up every week. I'd have liked to know that at the time.

  • The '87 flood. I was eight. Mum and I filled sandbags and Dad was out all night clearing the bywash. I didn't know until I started at the Trust and found the old report that he more or less saved Lock Lane. He never said a word about it. That was very him. It's quite a lot like me, too, Mira would say.
