Elias Fenwick
Our son. Twenty-two. He was a careful, funny boy who lined his toy boats up by length. He started an engineering degree at Kesterford in 2022 and left it after a year and a half to study illustration, which I handled badly. He works in a print shop in Kesterford now and draws. We talk on the phone about once a month and it is polite, which is worse than if it were angry.
What he's shared about Elias
Dad walked over my bridge three times and stamped in the middle. "She doesn't bounce." Best review I've ever had. The plaque has the Trust's name on it, which is right, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't read it twice to check.
Ferry Lane footbridge, 2005. My first. I still walk over it a few times a month. Dad stamped in the middle. I found out at his funeral that he'd been going to watch it go up every week. I'd have liked to know that at the time.
Pell Brook. I closed the lane and that night it dropped a metre. If I hadn't, the school bus would have been on it at eight in the morning. I missed Elias's nativity. Mira filmed it. He said his line perfectly.
